Easter Day
This morning we held a very joyful service with the Minister leading our worship. Pam Western read the Easter story from the Gospel of St John and David Leadbeater led us in an Easter reflection as well as the prayers of intercession. At the time of writing we have experienced another problem with the recording of the service (despite the acquisition of a new recording device), but we might still be able to coax some life into it!
As has been our custom for many years, members of the congregation brought flowers to decorate the bare cross which afterwards was taken outside to the front of the building to pass the message of the risen Christ to the community !

During the service we heard the words of a poem translated from the original Spanish by the minister….

Opening Words for Worship in a Time of War
Where rockets and missiles and bullets prevail,
GOD IS NOT GLORIFIED
Where dust and smoke and teargas fill the air,
GOD IS NOT GLORIFIED
Where food and Medicine are denied and water is cut off,
GOD IS NOT GLORIFIED
Where land is seized and walled off and others are excluded,
GOD IS NOT GLORIFIED
Where soundbite slogans of support override decades of complex history,
GOD IS NOT GLORIFIED
GOD IS GLORIFIED
Where stories are heard and difficult truths are shared.
GOD IS GLORIFIED
Where land is fruitful and all can flourish.
GOD IS GLORIFIED
Where streams of living water bring heling to all.
GOD IS GLORIFIED
Where the air is filled with music and laughter.

Carols on the Carpet
It’s 12 years since we held our first event of this sort. Originally called “Carols in the Car Park”, the idea sprung from an event Steve had heard of in Sydney Australia where a mid-summer Christmas lends itself to open-air singing. After two years of wet, miserable evenings in the run-up to Christmas in Swindon, we decided to permanently hold it in the church hall and it became ‘Carols on the Carpet’! But the fun of singing together and the enjoyment of watching the excitement on children’s faces doesn’t change! This year was certainly no different – as these few photos display. A great time was had by all as we tackled Christmas songs and favourite carols (Silent Night will never sound the same unless accompanied by children’s percussion instruments!) Even Santa heard the rendition of “Jingle Bells” and called to see what was going on.
Our thanks go to Geoff and the musicians as well as those who helped in so many ways – the hot mince pies were very welcome!
